i have a 2 year old male shepherd/husky mix. i brushed his teeth with crest toothpaste. and after that he has been vomiting a lot. his eyes are also becoming wider and he is panting a lot. his face seems to becoming pale and his body seems to be somewhat twitching too.
why? i myself use the same crest toothpaste daily. i gave him a bowl of water after brushing so he can rinse out.
will he be alright if i take him to vet in morning or is this emergency? i am not sure.

It's an emergency. Human toothpaste has flouride in it and that eats your stomach lining when you swallow it. That was not a very smart thing to do at all. This is why they have animal toothpaste.
Buy cheap doggy toothpaste from the store, if they lick/swallow it...it wont kill of harm them.

Well it's because your dog swallowed the toothpaste instead of spitting it out . Human toothpastes contain a detergent and flouride which causes stomach upsets when swallowed. This is especially true in dogs. Next time use a toothpaste labeled for dogs. If the dog is still vomiting tomorrow, take him to the vet. If he becomes weak or starts having seizures, he needs to go tonight. Some toothpastes contain artificial sweetners which are very toxic to dogs. In the meantime no more toothpaste.

If your dog is really having these isues he is going into toxic shock and needs to see an emergancy vet immediately or he will die
The chemicals in toothpaste are toxic even to humans, if swallowed in great amounts. That is why you rinse after brushing and cant brush babies teeth with it, and use tiny amounts and supervise toddlers when they do.
They make dog toothpaste for this reason, made from natural ingrediants that are safe for pets.

Good God, you have to be kidding. Dogs don't use human toothpaste, they have special dog toothpaste. Go to petsmart and get some for the dog (if he lives that is) and stop giving him things that are made for humans. Pets aren't like us: they swallow whatever you use to clean their teeth. Human toothpaste simply isn't edible. Nor is the heavy minty flavor really desirable to pets. Human toothpaste can give your pet some serious stomach problems.
If he is acting the way you describe why are you even on here asking questions like this? Don't you have any common sense? If the dog is in some kind of distress you need to get it help. Pretty simple, huh?

I think you need to educate yourself for the safety of your pet! I cannot believe anyone would do this! Even so, after seeing the reaction he had to it, how can you not determine yourself that this is obviously an emergency? Vomiting, widening eyes, heavy panting, pale and twitching!?!? I would be freaking out and rushing my pet to the vet right away! Not sitting on the computer.

Don't use human toothpaste, it is toxic to animals. the flouride and other ingredients can cause serious damage. If he is still acting the way you say, call or get to vet asap. They make special dog and cat toothpaste. NEVER use human on him again. Hope he's okay

Human Toothpaste is Toxic to dogs and should never be used on dogs. You need to get your dog to the vet tonight. I would not wait until morning!

Well to start you never brush your dogs teeth with the tooth paste you use. what works for you dogs exactly work for your dog they need their own tooth paste that can be purchase at any pet store. The best idea might be to take him to the vet and get him examined cause he will probably die if you don't take him. And remember next time you want to give your dog something that humans use that thats not the best idea.

we dont use people products on animals for a reason, there are chemicals in toothpaste that shouldnt be swallowed. if humans ingest toothpaste in large quantities it makes them sick, dogs dont have to consume as much to get sick. this is very serious you need to take your dog to the vet. use dog toothpaste.

flouride is toxic to pets..
also some human toothpastes contain Xylitol which is toxic to pets as well.
A Dog isnt able to "rinse and spit".. all he could do is swallow.
The dog needs a vet NOW!
Just because its safe for you to use, doenst mean its safe for a pet.. and actually flouride is even toxic to humans if ingested in large doses too!

If this is not a troll question, get your dog to the vet. You are two different species, what works for you and is safe is not necessarily safe for another species.

Just cause it is poison to them. It's bad for people to swallow too.. Everyone knows that you can't use people toothpaste for dogs, cause you can't stop them from swallowing it.

People toothpaste reacts with dog saliva and causes excessive foaming. You have to use dog toothpaste on dogs. call your vet! or rush him in quick.

...You seriously brushed your dogs teeth?
Dog's digestive juices are in their mouth, which is why they have bad breath. The only reason you should brush their teeth (with DOG toothpaste) is if you feed them people-food (In place of kibble, or whatever dog food you buy)
If you don't want to brush their teeth, feed them bones. It does the same job.
